Baldwin Continues With Asia-Pacific Successes

3/28/2007

The huge success experienced by Baldwin Technology in the Asia-Pacific market last year looks set to continue in 2007, with the company announcing a busy first quarter for both installations and new orders. During the next few months major newspaper installations will take place in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Australia. Baldwin’s product and technology portfolio has been expanded significantly following the recent acquisition of Oxy-Dry, resulting in an unrivalled range of press controls and accessory technologies for newspaper and commercial web offset printers as well as for sheet-fed companies.

“There is no doubt that the extent and scope of Baldwin’s product range today enables us to provide customers with a choice that is unique in the worldwide market of press controls and accessories,” says Peter Tkachuk, managing director of Baldwin Graphic Equipment. “If a printer is looking to improve the print quality, productivity and life expectancy of an older press we can equip it with highly automated systems such as spray dampening or blanket, cylinder and web cleaning. We have countless examples of customers who have been able to meet new demands for colour, quality and cost effectiveness by upgrading an existing press.

“At the same time we work extremely closely with all of the major press manufacturers within the region and a high number of the newspaper and commercial web offset press installations taking place in the Asia-Pacific area during 2007 will be fitted with Baldwin systems. It’s a very exciting period for the team here in the Asia-Pacific region. We can now provide support from our offices in Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong and can match virtually any press control requirement from a customer, whether they need a particular technology because of historical reasons, they want to be more environmentally-friendly or they need to improve print quality and productivity.”

Baldwin estimates that the recent acquisition of OxyDry gives it a significant portion of the Asia-Pacific newspaper and commercial web offset sectors. Customers have the opportunity of a ‘one stop shop’ for industry-leading press ancillary technologies, some of which used to be competing. This now provides them with greater options for cross integration of systems and the ability to upgrade presses for lower costs.
