Baldwin Wins Major Japanese Newspaper Orders

2/23/2006

Shelton, CT, February 23, 2006 -- Baldwin Technology Company, Inc. (AMEX: BLD), a leading global manufacturer of press accessories and control equipment, announced today that its Japanese subsidiary has secured a string of major orders from Japanese newspaper groups. The total value of the orders, which include automatic blanket cleaning and spray dampening systems, is approximately $3.5 million.

The Yomiuri Newspaper Company, which has the largest circulation in Japan with more than 10 million copies printed daily, ordered IMPACT® automatic blanket cleaning systems to be installed on new Mitsubishi presses at the company’s Kyushu plant. Previously, Yomiuri had also ordered Baldwin spray dampening systems for these new presses.

The Asahi Newspaper Company placed orders for spray dampening systems. The company prints Japan’s second largest newspaper, the Asahi, which has a daily circulation of 8.2 million. This latest order is part of a larger project where Baldwin will also supply spray bars to presses at three of Asahi’s printing plants. Installation of the equipment is scheduled to begin in June.

Baldwin’s Japanese subsidiary also won its first order to supply spray dampening systems to Kobe Newspaper Company, for its plant near Osaka.

Vijay C. Tharani, Vice President and CFO, said, “These orders further demonstrate Baldwin’s commitment to its newspaper customers to meet their challenges of reducing downtime and waste while increasing quality, productivity and environmental compliance.”
