Baldwin Technology Company, Inc. has signed an agreement with German based UV technology company, Kühnast Strahlungstechnik GmbH, to develop and sell a unique UV drying system for offset presses. The new product, GraphiCure GC9, combines Kühnast’s expertise in the development of UV-Quickstart drying lamps and Baldwin’s vast experience in application engineering for offset presses. It will be available for worldwide sale through Baldwin’s global distribution network within twelve months.
The GraphiCure GC9 will set new standards for UV drying systems and improve printers’ efficiency considerably. Printers will benefit by increasing their productivity, because the GraphiCure GC9 eliminates press downtime due to the quick start mechanism of the UV lamp. It does not require the typical five to eight minute waiting time necessary with conventional UV systems.
Apart from reduced press downtime, the GraphiCure GC9 saves energy with a lamp that is only on when the press is in operation. This in turn preserves lamp life, guaranteeing it to last up to 1,000 hours. The unique UV-Quickstart lamp, which only comes on when the press is running, eliminates the need for shutters and other moving parts, thus improving press productivity, as the shutters are one of the most common maintenance areas on conventional UV systems.
Thomas Gårlin, sales and marketing manager at Baldwin IVT AB in Sweden says: “We are very excited about adding the GraphiCure GC9 to our product portfolio. We are combining Kühnast’s ‘know-how’ in UV technology and Baldwin’s existing infrastructure to market, sell and service a unique product that will help offset printers to decrease their running costs and increase productivity.”
