January 28, 2004
Under its drupa 2004 theme, 'Setting New Standards for Print Productivity and Environmental Efficiency', Baldwin Technology Company, Inc. will unveil a range of economical and environmentally responsible technology innovations and product line extensions.
Next generation IMPACT® and PREPAC® applied cleaning technologies
Baldwin will introduce new PREPAC P3 and P3 UHC cleaning cartridges at drupa 2004, making Baldwin and non-Baldwin cloth technology automatic cleaning systems the most process and environmentally efficient systems available for commercial web and sheet-fed printing.
PREPAC P3 technology will clean web- and sheet-fed blankets more efficiently, quickly and cost-effectively and will not, in most applications, require external water to be used in the cleaning process. P3 technology has been pre-engineered for blankets where build-up results from the increasing use of lower grade papers and a higher content of calcium carbonate.
PREPAC P3 UHC (UV, hybrid and conventional inks) will provide a single pre-engineered cleaning chemistry that will effectively and safely clean UV, hybrid and conventional printing inks. Automatically cleaning blankets and impression cylinders with P3 UHC means there is no requirement for solvent storage and there will never be any misting during the cleaning operation
Baldwin will introduce its modular Tower Clean™ system for single-width newspaper and cold-set semi-commercial printing. This unique concept allows the printer to utilise the press dampening system along with cleaning modules from Baldwin to invest in automated cleaning that meets his cleaning requirement at the right price-point.
Baldwin’s automatic cleaning systems can be configured to automatically clean the blankets, impression cylinders and ink rollers, chill rolls and digital plates of web or sheet-fed presses independently or as a fully integrated automated press cleaning system.
Baldwin holds more than 50 patents relating to the automated cleaning of press cylinders and Baldwin cleaning systems have been recognized with GATF Intertech and Fogra awards and certificates.
Introducing Europe’s first Commercial-Grade Spray Dampening system: LithoSpray Maxima™
LithoSpray Maxima is the only spray dampening system designed to print on virtually any coated or uncoated stock at any press speed and without compromising on quality. LithoSpray Maxima incorporates Constant Cä technology, which keeps nozzle-tips clean for longer periods and new high-speed, high-performance S-16 controls, which will ensure the minimum amount of water is applied exactly where and when required and at the precise frequency, thus reducing fountain solution and ink use as well as make-ready paper waste regardless of press speed and paper width or grade.
Fluid Management systems: Introducing the Digital Double-Doser, for alcohol-free printing
Baldwin’s commitment to environmentally efficient printing will be demonstrated at drupa 2004 with the introduction of the Digital Double-Doser system. Compatible with all models of Baldwin circulating and Combi systems, the Double-Doser allows the independent use of an alcohol substitute and fountain solution to enable efficient alcohol-free printing, which is a growing trend in all print markets. Baldwin’s fluid management systems are available to control the supply, temperature, cleanliness, chemical composition and certain other characteristics of fluids used in the offset printing process. At the centre of Baldwin’s fluid management offerings is its patented Combiä technology, which allows for the integrated temperature management of the fountain solution and ink vibrators. Combi technology has now become the standard temperature control platform adopted and utilised by sheet-fed OEMs and printers around the world.
Web Press Protection systems and products
Baldwin has long been the industry leader in technologies and systems that prevent web breaks which occur during the printing process. Our products provide early detection and management to minimise press down time and prevent potentially catastrophic press damage. At drupa 2004, Baldwin will introduce the S-18, WebCatcher™, the market’s fastest and most reliable web press protection system. The S-18 Web Catcher will perform reliably at speeds of up to 18 metres per second and incorporates new dual DSA sensor technology, ensuring that a broken web can be sensed from either side (operator or gear), delivering unparalleled performance and reliability.
Advanced IR Drying and sheet control systems
GraphiSet™ is a complete range of IR and hot air drying systems utilising short-wave IR drying modules to efficiently dry inks and water-based coatings on presses from low pile through to large format double coater configurations. GraphiSet™ optimises production, provides superior gloss, faster turnaround, reduces spray powder and is designed for maximum press speeds.
Baldwin’s new generation of IR dryers for ink and water-based coatings on perfecting and non-perfecting presses - GraphiSet GS4 - features high-efficiency drying and sheet control modules which significantly reduce energy consumption and sheet-marking for printers. The GS4’s automatic temperature control, ability to store job information and easy-to-use touch screen controls eliminate the risk of operator error, reduce start-up time and waste, and increase production.
